Took the bus to Igoumenitsa and another to the border with Albania, wondering if it would be packed with refugees.
Only 5 of us got off the bus and there were no other people.
Natalia was staggering up the road with a heavy bag in her killer heeled thigh boots when a taxi collected us and took us and 2 others all the way to Sarande for 4EUR.
She didn't speak English but I learned that she is a police officer, (i would never have guessed) divorced, 2 daughters, her father was Italian but left when she was small. Her mother is Romany, now living in Tirana.
When we parted she hugged me like we had been friends for years.
Got a taxi to the Apollon Hotel which cost more than the long ride from the border.
It looks very smart but is in a building site. The electricity went off so I walked down the stairs and found the floors below are still under construction.
Walked into the city which is really ugly but had a good seafood risotto for lunch.
Chatted during a heavy shower to a tour operator who told me it would be difficult to find the type of property I'm looking for and buying is a problem too because during communism all land was taken by the government, afterwards it was redistributed but not to the original owners, so there are lots of legal battles.
Back at hotel nice sunset over Corfu but no air con. and no internet.
Was planning to visit ancient site at Butrint
tomorrow but will move on and hope for better facilities in a nicer town.
